Also attends the opening of his solo exhibition at the Galleria Christian Stein in Milan. He is awarded the Gold Medal by the Universidade de Porto. The Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover exhibits an extensive selection of his works produced between 1981 and 1997 and presented by Carl Haenlein; the show is subsequently presented in Krems, Austria. Solo exhibitions in Zaragoza, Frankfurt, Oporto and Zurich.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"spip\"><strong class=\"spip\">1998<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Fundaci\u00f3 Antoni T\u00e0pies opens the exhibition\u00a0<i class=\"spip\">T\u00e0pies. El tatuatge i el cos<\/i>, a wide-ranging show of the artist\u2019s works on paper and cardboard covering more than fifty years. New retrospective exhibition in Locarno (Casa Rusca, Pinacoteca Comunale). He is invested doctor honoris causa by the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts. The installation\u00a0<i class=\"spip\">Rinzen<\/i>, which won the Leone d\u2019Oro when it was presented at the Biennale di Venezia in 1993, is acquired by the Museu d\u2019Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) for its permanent collection. He produces seven etchings for the book\u00a0<i class=\"spip\">\u00bfT\u00fa?<\/i>, a collaboration with Antonio Gamoneda. He travels to Madrid for the opening of his exhibition at the Galer\u00eda Antonio Mach\u00f3n of thirty drawings from the series\u00a0<i class=\"spip\">Mira la m\u00e0<\/i>. The Galeria Toni T\u00e0pies in Barcelona shows a selection of his recent work. Solo exhibitions in Paris, Soria, Madrid, Miengo and Bilbao.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"spip\"><strong class=\"spip\">1999<\/strong><br \/>\nThe exhibition\u00a0<i class=\"spip\">T\u00e0pies. El tatuatge i el cos<\/i>\u00a0is awarded the Ciutat de Barcelona prize. He publishes\u00a0<i class=\"spip\">L\u2019art i els seus llocs<\/i>, a volume of his own texts and his selection of reproductions of works of art from different times and cultures. Solo exhibitions in New York, Burgos, Logro\u00f1o, Palma de Majorca and San Sebasti\u00e1n. Takes part in the exhibition\u00a0<i class=\"spip\">L\u2019Art m\u00e9decin<\/i>\u00a0(Mus\u00e9e Picasso, Antibes).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"spip\"><strong class=\"spip\">2000<\/strong><br \/>\nIn Madrid for the opening of his retrospective exhibition at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sof\u00eda, curated by Manuel J. Borja-Villel, which subsequently travels to Haus der Kunst in Munich. The Muzeum Narodowe in Cracow hosts the exhibition\u00a0<i class=\"spip\">T\u00e0pies. Certeses sentides<\/i>. Both the Pace Wildenstein Gallery in New York and the Galerie Lelong in Paris present selections of his most recent work. He takes part in the exhibition\u00a0<i class=\"spip\">Encounters. New Art from Old<\/i> at the National Gallery in London, together with Balthus, Louise Bourgeois, Richard Hamilton, Jasper Johns, Bill Viola and Jeff Wall, among others.
