Installations at the Teatre Grec and Centre d’Art La Capella

The installations prepared by Elena del Rivero in the Teatre Grec gardens, which continue in the windows of Centre d’Art La Capella, explore the political transformation of unused objects. The employ of simple, modest materials brings us into dialogue with arte povera. In this way, the artist upraises these everyday utensils, using visual language appealing to spirituality while creating a critique of material production, using recurring slogans in her artistic practice like “The End of the World”. Pearls are present in both interventions, as a symbol in Elena del Rivero’s work, evoking the words of María Zambrano: “There is nothing more to think when the pearl comes into play.”

Tendal de trapos de cocina [Awning of Kitchen Rags] will accompany the installations at the Teatre Grec. Rags are a recurring symbol in her practice as well, appealing to domestic space, care and the mark they make on objects. Contrasting this, at Centre d’Art La Capella the installation has more of a monastic feel, where the combination of wrought iron, pearls and gilded objects suggests seclusion, solitude and inner search. Elena del Rivero appropriates the words of Clarice Lispector, “I want the inconclusive”, thus reaffirming her emphasis on the unfinished and ephemeral.
