The Museu Tàpies will close to the public for three months to improve its visitor reception areas. During this time, it will maintain its activities at other venues

With the aim of implementing new forms of engagement and dialogue with audiences, the Museu Tàpies wants to improve the visitor experience by carrying out a major refurbishment of the entrance areas. Work will allow access areas to be expanded. The aim is to welcome visitors and groups visiting the exhibitions and taking part in activities. In addition, improvements will be made to the information about the museum and, in particular, its commitment to visitors, its accessibility and its sustainability.

To ensure the safety of visitors during this renovation, the Museu Tàpies will close to the public for three months and postpone the exhibition programme planned for the end of the year, which will now take place in 2027. The exhibition Antoni Tàpies. The Perpetual Movement of the Wall has been extended until 27 September, and the exhibition Àngel Jové. De Intactu will end on 11 October. The upcoming exhibitions dedicated to Antoni Tàpies/Pere Portabella, Penny Siopis and Cristina Lucas will open in early 2027.

Until that time, the Museu Tàpies will maintain its public and educational programme at other venues. The sessions of the Following the Sun series will continue on the Mitjó terrace and those of The Chairs of Tàpies will take place in other spaces in the city, such as La Caldera and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).

In December, the UPF will host the study days for the Natural History Series, created by Antoni Tàpies between 1950 and 1951. Coinciding with these days, the Museu Tàpies will publish the first volume of the new collection, Contemporary Perspectives on Tàpies, arising from international symposia and study days, such as those held in 2024 and 2025 on Teresa Series (1966) and the Letters for Teresa series (1971–74).

The Extramural project is based on a multidisciplinary and plural approach, and is structured around three main conceptual axes: inter-institutional dialogue, dialogue with public space and dialogue with the environment. The invited artist for this edition, Dora García, will give a guided tour of the Montjuïc Cemetery, as well as participating in a seminar at Eina and in a film series at the Filmoteca de Catalunya, as part of the Loop Festival.

The education department will offer urban tours exploring Tàpies’ work in the public sphere and will develop initiatives in educational centres, libraries and hospitals, among others. In September, a new edition of the Teresa Barba Critical Writing Competition will be launched.
