The monographic exhibition Antoni Tàpies: The Perpetual Movement of the Wall consist of an exploration of the artist’s work on the basis of his exhibition contexts and forms. Continuing the line of research begun with the exhibition Antoni Tàpies: The Imagination of the World, the new project looks into the 1950s in order to provide new perspectives on a time of major changes in the artist’s practice.
The project takes as its object of study four exhibitions staged by Antoni Tàpies in the decade, each with very different sets of his work, and also set up in different ways. The divergence between these approaches, as well as the particular vicissitudes of the organisation of each of them, makes it possible to relate Tàpies’ output in each case with wider debates about modern architecture, industry, graphic design and editorial composition, urban space and certain ways of life at the time.
