Thought and Creation

With the premise of reflecting on contemporaneity and raising awareness of historical legacies, the Museu Tàpies organises an annual interdisciplinary programme that forges connections between the visual arts, sound-based practices and textual creation.

In this regard, and as part of its stable programming, with the support of the Antoni Tàpies – UPF Chair of Contemporary Art and Thought, every year the Museu Tàpies organises an international symposium related to the exhibition dedicated to the collection. The aim is to address the exhibition’s content from a perspective that is both current and critical, rethinking visual narratives while paying special attention to the symbolic and aesthetic cosmogony that infuses the work of Antoni Tàpies. Another programme involves study days focused on series or sets of work by Tàpies that might contribute to greater understanding of his legacy as a living essay, able to articulate a symbolic universe where the poetical dimension and the materiality of forms are interlaced.

In relation to temporary exhibitions, programming explores the hybridisation of formats, the harmony between academic and performative modes, and interchange between voices of varied generations. Visits in dialogue, corporeal lectures, live music and performative readings fill the museum’s galleries, activating exhibition spaces as sites of experience and knowledge transfer derived from alternate sensibilities.
