Albert Serra in conversation with Nicole Brenez and Àngel Quintana


 

Coinciding with the film-installation Albert Serra. Roi Soleil and the course Jean-Luc Godard, The Image in Question, Nicole Brenez, Albert Serra and Àngel Quintana will talk about Godard and his legacy in contemporary audiovisual culture, particularly in the work of the filmmaker from Banyoles.

 

Nicole Brenez (Strasbourg, France, 1961) is Professor of Film Studies at the University Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris III, curator of the Cinémathèque Française’s avant-garde film series and director of the Analysis & Cinematographic Culture Department at La Fémis. She is the author of several books, including Cinéma d’avant-garde Mode d’emploi  (Gendaishicho-shinsha Publishers, 2012) and Jean-Luc Godard théoricien des images (La Camera Verde, 2014). With Philippe Grandrieux, she produces the film collection It May Be That Beauty Has Strengthened Our Resolve. She has worked with film directors such as Chantal Akerman and currently with Jean-Luc Godard.

 

Albert Serra (Banyoles, 1975) is a director and producer of Catalan cinema.

Àngel Quintana (Torroella de Montgrí, 1960). Professor of History and Theory of Cinema at the Universitat de Girona. He has been a guest lecturer at the universities of Paris III, Lausanne and Los Andes (Bogotá), as well as FLACSO (Buenos Aires) and Iran’s National School of Cinema (Tehran). He is a film critic for PuntAvui and coordinator of the Caimán Cuadernos de cine magazine in Catalonia (formerly Cahiers du cinéma-Spain). He has published several books on cinema, including Fábulas de lo visible (Acantilado, 2012. Spanish Association of Film History Award); Federico Fellini (Cahiers du cinéma/Phaidon); Virtuel? À l’ère du numérique, le cinéma est le plus réaliste des arts (Cahiers du cinéma); Después del cine (Acantilado, 2011) and Lorca et le cinéma (2019). He is Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the Universitat de Girona.
