The International Research Award “The Hermeneutics of Gesture: Tàpies and the Present” has the objective of questioning the genealogy of Tàpies and rewriting the narrative from a critically revisionist perspective, in connection to today’s world, while seeking a balance between the existing theoretical corpus and recent contextual lexicons.

In this way, the mission of the research project “The Hermeneutics of Gesture: Tàpies and the Present” is to articulate a new orientation for publishing, enabling the presentation of firm, determined readings founded in the hermeneutics of Tàpies, which might likewise connect with contemporary principles.

The Fundació Antoni Tàpies thus proposes to bring to fruition a collection of four or five books, in the period from 2024 to 2026, related to the research award, thus giving voice to new interpretive paradigms in greater consonance with the present. In this regard, it is fundamental to seek out profiles of researchers who might be able to circumvent thematic fragmentation and take on Tàpies-related themes, contributing to the resolution of categorical problematics. Another area of emphasis is to seek possible candidates for new readings of Tàpies, for example from the perspective of new feminist positions.

With the goal of articulating this initiative, the Fundació Antoni Tàpies has created an advisory committee comprised of Manuel Borja-Villel, Pilar Cortada, Eva March (director of the Antoni Tàpies – UPF Chair in Contemporary Art and Thought), Carmen Pardo, Imma Prieto (director of the Fundació Antoni Tàpies), Josep Ramoneda, Alicia Rodés and Valentín Roma. Judith Barnés, head of public programmes at the Fundació Antoni Tàpies, coordinates the group.
