A tribute to Antoni Marí

The Museu Tàpies will host a tribute to Antoni Marí (Ibiza, 1944 – Barcelona, ​​2026), poet, writer, essayist, art critic and university professor, with the aim of remembering and recognizing a key figure in contemporary Catalan culture and his contribution to thought, literature and aesthetic reflection.

The tribute recognizes an intellectual career that spanned poetry, essays, narrative, and theory, making the dialogue between literature, philosophy, and creative work one of its principal areas of focus. Marí developed a body of work of great intellectual and literary rigor and exerted a notable influence on culture and the humanities, as well as on several generations of writers, artists, researchers, and students.

Born in Ibiza in 1944, Antoni Marí studied Philosophy and Literature and was a professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and, later, at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where he was Professor of Art Theory and a founding member of the Humanities studies program. As a writer, he cultivated poetry, essays, and narrative fiction. Among his works are The prelude, A winter trip, The desert, The genius of the home, The expressive will, The silver one, The Vincennes road and Book of Absences. His work was recognized with, among others, the Serra d’Or Critics’ Prize, the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize, the Prudenci Bertrana Prize, and the National Prize for Catalan Literature. His last book, Four sides, It was published in 2025.

The event will bring together people who shared creative spaces, thought, friendship, and work with Antoni Marí, and who will contribute, from different perspectives, to evoking his life and legacy. Participants will include Pepa Balsach, Jordi Ibáñez, Francisco Parcerisas, Espe Rabat, Toni Tàpies, and Pucci Vilurbina, among others.
