Extramural 2026. Second time/resurrection

The proposal allows us to approach cinema as a tool of poetic, political and aesthetic potential in itself. In the case of Dora García, her artistic practice is deeply permeated by audiovisual language, which will allow some of her screenings to be presented at the Filmoteca de Catalunya as part of the Loop Festival during the final phases of Extramural 2026.

The selected works are directly intertwined with the conceptual axes of the project and reinforce issues such as return, the act of “resurrection” understood as the recovery of silenced voices, or critical thinking about love and memory within artistic practice. The screenings will include The Joycean Society (2013), Second Time (2018) and (Revolution, keep your promise) Red Love (2024).

At The Joycean Society, Dora García documents some of the sessions of the James Joyce Foundation’s book club in Zurich, which has been meeting since 1986 to read, interpret and decipher Finnegans Wake, one of James Joyce’s most hermetic works. The film highlights collective reading as an exercise in resistance, perseverance and shared construction of meaning.

With Second time, the artist takes as a starting point the figure of the Argentine psychoanalyst and theorist Oscar Masotta to address the turbulent political context of Argentina during the military dictatorship and the consequences of the systemic violence exercised through forced disappearances.

Finally, (Revolution, keep your promise) Red Love is part of the trilogy that Dora García dedicates to the legacy of Alexandra Kollontai, Marxist theorist and Soviet revolutionary, feminist and sexual activist. Through this figure, the artist draws connections between the revolutionary narratives of Moscow, Mexico and the Latin American transfeminisms of the 21st century, evoking a promise of revolution that aspires to make effective the idea of ​​equality that marked Kollontai’s thought.
