Collection 2006

Fundació Antoni Tàpies presents a new selection of works from the Collection. This year’s exhibition, which includes a selection of drawings exhibited for the first time, places special emphasis on Tàpies’ works on paper and card. These pieces are precursors, providing an advance glimpse of certain concepts (inscription and graphic work) and content (spirituality, deterioration, pain) that will later be fundamental elements in the later development of Tàpies’ work.

The show also features materials with grattage and graffiti from the 1960s and 70s, works from the 80s which find Tàpies reviving the brushstroke as writing, and pieces from the 90s and the first decade of the new century, in which the artist continues to explore his artistic and philosophical concerns, now with renewed intensity, whilst also remaining loyal to his origins.

Finally, this new selection also features this year’s donation made by Antoni and Teresa Tàpies to the Foundation, the work Cara i dors (Front and Back, 2005).
