Her works take the body as a measure and recipient of external reality to develop a reflection on the identity of women as intellectual subject, focusing on ideas of sexual identity, love, sickness and maternity. The fundamental themes her works explore are female archetypes; the concepts of home and family; the search for one’s own gaze, one not conditioned by the masculine gaze; a vindication of illness as a form of healing; the necessary fragmentation of loving relationships; and, above all, the interweaving of experience with thought.
Using photographs, videos, projections of light and installations, Eulàlia Valldosera recreates dramatised scenes which simultaneously reflect presence and absence, memory and desire, and in which shade and, more recently, mirrors, evoke an inner search which evokes in us the subconscious world, not just as the spectre of an unresolved past, but also as a way of understanding reality. Through her works, the artist displaces the material world and generates an “animated” space in which she situates her subject, in the final outcome the sole protagonist of the experience.
