Library

The Library specializes in modern and contemporary art. It also includes the most extensive collection on the work of Antoni Tàpies: monographs, exhibition catalogs, press clippings and archival materials.

The collections include books on painting, sculpture, drawing, print, architecture, design, decorative arts, performance, photography, film and video, as well as the latest emerging arts. There are collections on Asian, African and oceanic culture and art.

The Library opened in June 1990. It is located in the building of the former Montaner y Simón publishing house , designed in 1879 by the modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The Library specializes in modern and contemporary art. It also includes the most extensive collection on the work of Antoni Tàpies: monographs, exhibition catalogs, press clippings and archival materials.

The collections include books on painting, sculpture, drawing, print, architecture, design, decorative arts, performance, photography, film and video, as well as the latest emerging arts. There are collections on Asian, African and oceanic culture and art. Its initial collection contained about 9,000 volumes from the donation of the private library of Antoni Tàpies.

The Library’s holdings include more than 54.000 books and exhibition catalogs, 580 titles of periodicals and a collection of audiovisuals with more than 800 titles.

Most books are in open access; the special collections are kept in a reserve section.
