Given his desire to meld with nature, the works from the eighties respond also to motivations similar to those of previous decades. In Díptic de vernís (Diptych in Varnish, 1984) the stain of varnish has acquired the form of a body with its legs open towards the observer, revealing what could be feminine genitals or an anus. An inverted cross at the bottom seems to be the point at which to penetrate this body. In this way, the cross acquires a phallic character which had already appeared in other representations of crosses and inverted Ts. As in these other cases, this work is an expression of his desire to become part of the formless continuum, to eliminate the duality existing between nature and man.
