This book reviews the political commitment of Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, 1923-2012) throughout his career. It focuses on the artistic production of the period 1946-75, when the Catalan artist lived under the Franco dictatorship, but also analyses his commitment to the defence of human rights and freedoms around the world throughout his life. It offers an extensive survey of his most political production -paintings, objects, graphic work, posters- and analyses the role of the internationalisation of his work in denouncing the repressive context of his country. The book includes archival documents (photographs, correspondence, manifestos, etc.), many of them unpublished, recovered thanks to research carried out at the Fundació Antoni Tàpies.
